TC Rides the Baja Mil

Todd Corbit, our long time friend and two-time EDR veteran is a bad ass. He doesn't have the most tattoos, the greasiest Shovelknucklebaggerbobber or the longest beard, but he's got a big set of balls, a great attitude and isn't a show off like the rest of us morons. You may remember the dude on the frumpy old BMW who always takes off early to Ensenada? That's the dude. Doing his own thing and for that he gets mucho respect from me. He rode in this year's 40th anniversary Baja 1000 and this is what he had to say:

I just returned from the race, what a great experience. We finished in around 32 hours and 8th in class 22. I did the 6 hour night section from RM 428, highway ends and the course heads to COCO's, to RM655 after Viscanio. Here is a couple of photos from my trip including a shot of the DC3 I flew home on.

Looking forward to EDR08.

TC, we're looking forward to it too. Thanks for the pics.

Brass Balls

Proud EDR Sponsor, Gabe over at Afterhours Choppers is offering up a pretty sweet deal, only here to EDR folks. He's got 10 sets of brass shorty springer risers up for sale at a price even better than his usual good deals. They include 1/2"-20 bolts, and have a rise of 1-7/8".

They normally go for $215 but he'll let a set go for $175 if you tell him you found out about it on here.

After the 10 sets are sold the price goes back to normal, which still isn't bad at all!

Thanks, Gabe for the deal.

If you haven't seen Gabe's stuff, check out his site, he makes bars, risers, oil filter mounts and all kinds of cool stuff. You can also reach him by phone at 916-761-3606.

Greaser Mike

Look, we're number one!

Here's my bet for the Circle of Death Championships; Greaser Mike from NYC. We met Mike this summer out in Gotham and have been his biggest fan ever since. Racing with Hugh from 6th street Cycles on the lower east side, Mike knows his flat tracking. Mike swears he's going to make the trek all the way out for the EDR and now that we've added this stupid race to it, I think he's even more stoked. C'mon out Mike, you may never go back...

Círculo de la Muerte (Hell Track Circle of Death)

A few months ago, George Counes from Spartan shared a good idea with us over hot sausage at the Atomic Customs Compound. "Why can't we set up a dirt track on next year's EDR for some real hell raising?" Good question. The answer is, "We can... maybe."

EDR vets may remember seeing a baseball diamond with bleachers and fencing across the street from Ruben's Campo. We asked our host Aaron at Ruben's if this baseball park was for rent, and he said EVERYTHING in Mexico is for rent. If Aaron can convince the owner of the ball park to let us ride on it, here's how the 2008 EDR Circle of Death at San Felipe Hell Track will go down...

The format for individual motos is simple: two men enter, one man leaves. Each group of two riders will line up head to head and blast three hot laps around the bases. The first guy across the finish line lives to race another moto; the loser watches from the cheap seats. The man to plow through all challengers will be crowned The 2008 EDR Circle of Death champion. Bikes will break, beer will flow and one brave soul will stand atop the podium. Like everything else on the EDR, there aren't many rules, except these:

• No ringers on trailers. Only bikes ridden to San Felipe may enter
• Flag start, bike with the smallest displacement gets the inside line
• Three laps, no crap
• Winner advances, loser parks
• No classes, one winner, one trophy

If there's time left after the official event, we'll open the track up to hot man-on-man action.

Our bet is about 20 guys will sack up for this event. That should make for some exciting racing. Who's in? There will be plenty of seating, and Aaron has promised to bring water and beer. Of course, betting will be encouraged.

See you at the races...

EDR Prerun report

So, the prerun went well. Both Ruben's Campo in San Felipe and the Hotel Santa Isabel in Ensenada are looking forward to seeing us next year. Imagine that! I guess we're not that bad after all. We heard that the Isabel was charging for both nights up front, non-refundable. We talked to JC about it and he's willing to only charge one night up front and the other when you get there. Pretty standard, and it'll be worth it. Both places have several reservations already, so get your shit straight as soon as you can. Details can be found on the WHERE page.

Heading South

Puertocitas Pemex.jpg

We're going down today to visit our friends at Ruben's Campo and the Hotel Santa Isabela. It'll be a busy weekend with the 40th Annual Baja 1000 starting on Tuesday. I had dreams of putting something together with my friends Matt & Glen from Allied Racing but life got in the way and we just couldn't pull it off. Maybe next year guys.

We'll make sure to post any updates after the trip but right now it sounds like both the campground and hotel will be glad to see us again next year.

Unablogger

Blogs are fun for me and you! Actually more blogs probably get started and then quickly forgotten about than silly motorcycle projects. No matter what anyone says, they are an exercise in vanity and are probably a waste of time for all of us, this one included. There are a few that I enjoy and probably hundreds of good ones we'll never even discover. Here are a few of my favorites:
